Mandekalou, words of Memory recounts the recording of Mandinka traditional music by following the Western African griot’s history. Hereditary singers of praises, connected to the aristocratic families and to the royal courts, historians, genealogists and arbiter of the traditional laws, the griot is an entire phenomenon of the Western African Savannah, from Senegal to North of Nigeria.
However, from an international point of view, this word has been essentially credited Mandékalou –Mandé population- who has its roots on the actual borders of Guinea and Mali, heart of the Mandé empire years ago.
